Currently in our 13th year of production, the South Plainfield Observer is the official newspaper for the Borough of South Plainfield. Our publication date is every Friday.

We are dedicated to providing local news on issues affecting the Borough as well as information on schools, sports, obituaries and more. We also spotlight local businesses as well as notable individuals. The newspaper also provides information on job opportunities and local services.

Additionally, we are the proud sponsor, along with Hometown Heros, of the Junior Journalist Contest. Our goal is to encourage all of our students to "Write On!" Last year, we had hundreds of entries from all of our public schools as well as Sacred Heart School. Winners are chosen weekly from October through May, and receive a free T-Shirt and a free dinner for their families, delivered to their home by Charlie and Debbie Kurland, owners of Hometown Heros. All the winners and their parents are honored at a year-end banquet courtesy of Hometown Heros. In addition, one winner each year is chosen to receive the Ruth Kurland Memorial Award, a $1,000 savings bond.

The South Plainfield Observer is sold through home delivery and in more than twenty stores locally. Paid circulation is approximately 3,200. Four times a year, the newspaper is mailed to every home and business in South Plainfield, approximately 10,000+ addresses.
