Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Selling Pierogies
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Orthodox Church, 416 Delmore Ave., is taking orders for fresh pierogies. Cheese (cottage cheese) pierogies are $6/dozen. Potato, potato/cheese, potato/cheddar cheese, potato/onion, potato/mushroom, potato/jalapeno, potato/spinach, potato/sauerkraut, potato/sweet cabbage, sauerkraut/mushroom and sauerkraut are $5/dozen.

Order by Sunday evening for the following Friday pick-up.

  • Lenten Fish Dinners at Sacred Heart
    March 12, 19 and 26
    The South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council #6203 and Sacred Heart Church will again be sponsoring Lenten fish dinners on Friday, March 12, 19 and 26. Dinners will be served in the Sacred Heart School cafeteria, 149 South Plainfield Ave., from 5 to 7 p.m. Menu: fillet of fish (fried, broiled, parmesan), pasta (cheese ravioli, manicotti or linguini) or pizza; fresh garden salad, rice pilaf, French fries or macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, coffee, tea or cold drink, plus dessert. Take out orders are also available. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for children. Pay at the door. Stations of the Cross will be held in the church at 7 p.m.


  • 41st Annual District Music and Arts Festival
    March 11
    The 41st annual District Music and Arts Festival will be held on Thursday, March 11 at South Plainfield High School. The concert will be divided into three sections: orchestra at 6:30 p.m., chorus at 7:30 p.m. and band at 8:40 p.m. Tickets for each portion of the concert are $5 each. Tickets can be purchased at all borough schools or at the door.


  • Boy Scout Troop 309 Clothing Drive
    March 13
    Boy Scout Troop 309 will be holding a clothing drive fundraiser on Saturday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Wesley Methodist Church, 1500 Plainfield Ave. We are collecting usable clothing, shoes (please bag separately), accessories, linens, stuffed animals, hard toys (dolls, cars, etc.), children’s activity sets and small and medium bikes. If you need items to be picked up, call Nancy Pauls at (908) 917-4700.


  • Elks Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner
    March 13
    The South Plainfield Elks Veterans Committee is sponsoring their annual corned beef and cabbage dinner on New Market Avenue on Saturday, March 13 from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Adults $12, children $5. All you can eat, includes soda, dessert and cash bar. For more information, call Lou Peralta at (908) 756-6406.


  • American Legion St. Patty’s Dinner Dance
    March 13
    American Legion Chaumont Post #243, Oak Tree Avenue, will hold a St. Patrick’s dinner dance on Saturday, March 13 from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Proceeds benefit S.A.L. Squadron 243 Scholarship Fund. For info call, (908) 668-9414.


  • So. Plfd. Republican Organization Meeting
    March 16
    The South Plainfield Republican Organization will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Sherban’s, located on Front Street. Candidates for Middlesex County Sheriff’s office will be speaking.


  • Rock Darfur Concert
    March 19
    A concert to raise money to save Darfur will be held at the PAL building, located on Maple Ave. on Friday, March 19 starting at 6 p.m. Bands appearing are A Clear Blurr, The Battle Begun, Matt Koziol and Against the Tide. Performers are SDI and Flipcyde Illstars. Food, games and music; all for a good cause. Cost is $5 per person.


  • Franklin School PTO Auction/Raffle
    March 20
    The Franklin School PTO will hold its 15th annual auction/raffle, "Spring is in the Air," on Saturday, March 20 in the high school gym. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. All proceeds go to the Franklin School students.   • St. Stephen’s Spaghetti Dinner
    March 21
    St. Stephens Lutheran Church, 3145 Park Ave., is hosting an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Sunday, March 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. Includes beverages and desserts. Free-will offering will be taken. Suggested donation: $5/adults, $2/children. No reservations needed. For more information, call the church office at (908) 757-4474.
